DCCQ established DCCQ youth which is now called DYQ – Deaf Youth Queensland in aim to expand the potentials of young deaf people and children and support them in becoming optimistic about their future as well as helping them to cultivate a stronger positive identity to being deaf in Queensland.
DCCQ aims to teach young deaf people the skills in:
- leadership
- organising events
- advocacy
- governance
DCCQ believes that the presence of Deaf role models through social and leadership activities are crucial for the social and well-being of a young person as they grow up – these people can inspire, guide how to navigate as a Deaf person through life, be a sounding board and act as a source of valuable support for young Deaf people.
